Don’t be intimidated by paper mache. This is such a fun and easy activity for any grade level. A great resource for homeschoolers, teachers, and parents. I have done this in class and I have taught paper mache sculptures remotely. It’s so great for the students to be building these cardboard sculptures and get their hands a little dirty making these PUMPKIN PIES.
The mixture below makes a thin paper mache mixture, it dries fast & makes minimal mess.
FOR THE PERFECT PAPER MACHE MIX:
- 1/2 CUP FLOUR
- 1 CUP WATER
- 1/2 tsp SALT
mix together in a small bowl with a fork, until all the lumps are out.
EXPERT TIP: Dip one newspaper strip at a time, into the paper mache mix. Use your fingers to gently scrape off excess mixture before applying it to your cardboard pie structure. Try to stick to just one layer of the paper mache. It’s ok if it overlaps a bit in some areas.
