This takes a bit of prepping, but the Kindergarteners get super excited over this lesson. I use tempera paint, I put the primaries on paper plates for groups of 3 to share.
Groups of 3’s works great for this project.
For the secondaries I squeeze each set of colors in to small Dixie cups with a Popsicle stick for mixing. I don’t mix them, I save that for the kids so they can see the 2 primaries turn into a secondary.
**In the past I have always tried to have them mix their secondaries on their paper plates, and every class has at least 1or 2 kids that end up mixing all the colors together at the beginning of the lesson. The cups took a bit more prep, but it made the lesson so much smoother this year.
I use poster board cut into rectangles.
We use 1 finger, dip into the red and start with a stripe going down along the edge of our paper. I have them wipe their finger clean on a paper towel.
1 student from the group of 3 gets to mix the red and yellow in the Dixie cup, then they can all dip their finger in the orange and fingerprint their orange stripe next to the red.
So on and so on….
