Fall leaves with Faux Watercolor

This is what I call “faux watercolor”.
Materials: Cray Pas oil pastels, watercolor paper, watercolor brush, pencil & eraser, water cups, blues & purples of cut tissue paper.

I have done variations of this project with 3rd grade to 6th grade.

We began by drawing different types of leaves and then outlining them with brown or red oil pastel. We then used fall colors of oil pastels to create a multi-color leaf.
Brush water on the watercolor paper and start placing pieces of tissue paper over the wet area. **It is necessary to work in small sections to be sure the paper is wet when placing the tissue paper on.

The color from the tissue paper bleeds on to the watercolor paper. Leave all pieces on until completely dry. Then just shake the tissue paper right off and you have a beautiful “Faux Watercolor” background.
