ART TEACHER IN LA BUTTERFLY ART LESSON

butterflY ART LESSON

BUTTERFLY ART LESSON for Grade K-3 is a gorgeous project. Whether its homeschool art or in class. This project can be easily taught remotely using any art materials on hand.

These Mixed-Media Butterflies are done using tempera or acrylic paint and watercolor. But can also be done using black crayon or sharpie and then painted in with whatever students have at home to add color. This is a great art lesson to introduce symmetry to the younger grades.

MATERIALS

Watercolor Paper, pencil, eraser, black acrylic or tempera paint, firm brush, watercolors, water cup, watercolor brush

FOR IN SCHOOL ART, I USE PRANG WATERCOLORS

FOR REMOTE TEACHING I SUGGEST STUDENTS USE SETS WITH ASSORTED COLORS. They’re super inexpensive, not high quality, but it fun for hem to have a wide range of colors to work with. These can be found on Amazon, Michaels, even Target.

DIRECTIONS

DRAWING: Draw the butterfly body and round head, in the center of the paper.

Draw horizontal lines out from the center of the body, for the bottom of the top wing. Then diagonal lines out from the top of the body and let those round and connect to the bottom of the wing.

Bottom wings can be added to the bottom half of the body.

And add in designs on the wings and body. Keeping patterns symmetrical on the wings.

PAINTING: Paint over the pencil lines with black acrylic or tempera paint let dry.

*Black marker or crayon can be substituted.

Paint in with watercolor or anything you have to add color.

I’ll keep updating lesson to adapt to remote teaching as I plan the curriculum for the upcoming school year. Trying to make things as easy as possible for parents. Making sure lessons can be successful, even for the students who have minimal supplies to use at home.
Here are some art lessons that can be adapted to art at home…
